Nehmen wir den Begriff  “Essenz” in Augenschein und setzen uns mit seiner Bedeutung auseinander: In der klassischen Philosophie definiert als Selbstand, Substanz, das Wesen eines Dings order eines konkreten Individuums. In der Alchemie definiert als eine der Grundsubstanyen in der Vier-Elemente-Lehre. In der Verfahrenschemie definiert als eine konyentrierte Lösung, also ein Konyentrat. In der Lebensmittelherstellung definiert als reduzierte, konzentrierte Brühe, also Fond.
Aller “Essenz” geht demnach die “Was-ist-das-Frage” voraus, die Frage nach der Substanz.

The action piece “” by Moka Sheungyan begins with the artist wearing full body of black acrylic paint and a Black Cone shaped mask, walking through the hallway  into the space, with a flesh  like sculpture in her arms. The mask 45cm in length and allowed only limited sight; almost seeing nothing but a small spot on the right side. the performance aimed to destroy one of the sculptures created bz the artist, shown in her diploma exhibition in London. To put one self into an uncomfortable situation and the complex feeling of destroying something that was once dear and meaningful, is perhaps an extreme waz to explore an unknown, hidden self, coupled with anxiety of being blind, and being surrounded by strangers.

The moment when the arms fall, and hit the target(another sculpture), an atmosphere of intensity is created with the audience, space, and artist. The force of either sculpture can destroy the other, the notion creates more suspense for the audience and the artist.
The result is unknown, a gamble, a metaphor which can only find a sensation in different extremes, transformation, emptiness, sadness, stupidity - after all, just another waz of existing.
